The Cal Poly Triathlon is passionate about protecting the environment that we’re lucky to train in every day. We know that as athletes, we have the power to reduce our footprints and positively influence our communities. Learn more about what Heart & Soles is doing to put on a sustainable race!

  1. Compostable cups & onsite composting station: No more one-time-use plastic water bottles during or after the race. Follow our easy to read signs for what you can dispose of in our compost bins.
  2. One World Running shoe donation box: Have any old running shoes? Bring them to the race and we will donate them to One World Running, which will distribute them to communities in need around the world and in the US. The Colorado-based non-profit’s recent work has been Central and South America, where they distribute the shoes, as well as clothes and school supplies. Shoes that are still good for use will find their ways to athletes and commuters; shoes that are worn out are sent to Boulder’s Eco-Cycle program. Shoes not worn out yet? Worry not! Used gear is always welcome with local charities and Goodwill stores, especially as an alternative to landfills.
  3. Terracycle energy bar wrapper collection: For the past 6 months, CPTri has been collecting Clif Bar & other energy bar wrappers (over 1,200!) to recycle through Terracycle, an organization that repurposes hard to recycle waste.
